Budget falls short of the long-term investment needed to restore nature and build climate resilience

Today’s Budget misses a critical opportunity to put nature recovery and climate resilience at the heart of Britain’s long-term future.

At a time when the impacts of extreme weather and biodiversity loss are becoming increasingly apparent, the lack of sufficient long-term investment raises serious questions about how the UK Government intends to deliver its environmental ambitions.

As extreme weather becomes more frequent and severe — the clean up continues from two named storms in quick succession over the weekend, we need long-term solutions, not short-term fixes. Rewilding can help restore ecosystems, reduce flood and drought risks, support biodiversity and build more resilient landscapes. But delivering these benefits at scale requires sustained investment and a clear commitment to nature recovery, giving landowners, farmers and rewilding practitioners the confidence to plan for the long term.

Successive governments continue to kick the can down the road, and ignore the elephant in the room that is the climate crisis. We need action, with long-term investment in nature at the heart of a more resilient future for Britain.
