Statement on 30by30 Delivery Plan
Defra’s 30by30 Delivery Plan is an important step forward but doesn’t go far enough.
Today (13 July) Defra has released their 30by30 Delivery Plan and accompanying Assessment Guidance. While this is as an important step towards delivering the UK Government’s commitment to restore nature by 2030, it doesn’t go far enough.
It’s encouraging to see greater recognition of restoring natural processes and landscape-scale recovery as vital to achieving lasting biodiversity gains.
However, to turn ambition into action, this work now needs to be backed by a robust implementation plan. This should set out clear timelines, outline responsibilities, and detail the support that will be available to help land managers contribute with confidence. Success should be measured by restoring healthy, connected ecosystems as well as meeting the UK Government’s overall 30by30 ambition.
If strengthened in these areas, the Delivery Plan has the potential to become a powerful tool for accelerating nature recovery across England. The framework is there, now it’s time to back it with tangible action and get to work for wildlife, climate and people.
