Night heron

Night heron

Date of disappearance: 16th or 17th Century

Reason: Persecution

Special powers: Unlike other herons and egrets, its remarkable vision allows it to hunt at night, when it can escape from competition by other birds. Ecosystems often function very differently at night, and restoring nocturnal species can make a big impact to their health and dynamism.

Suitability for reintroduction: Conditions for reintroducing the night heron are excellent
